There is one thing that people can actually agree on across the aisle in Washington, DC: The United States is in a strategic competition with a rising China that poses a range of economic, political, and military security challenges.

Special Speaker and author of the article in "Great Decisions" briefing book:  Dr. Thomas J. Christensen

Dr. Christensen is Professor of Public and International Affairs and Director of the China and the World Program at Columbia University.   As Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 2006 to 2008, he was responsible fore relations with China, Taiwan, and Mongolia.  He has also served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.  Christensen has written several books on the Cold War and China.  He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has received a Distinguished Public Service Award by the U.S. Department of State.
