In this presidential election year Professor Ian Drake of Montclair State University will describe the nature of the presidency at each period below, the nature of campaigning, the pressures of party politics, and other aspects of American history. The periods that will be discussed include:
Jefferson v. Adams in 1800: Making History
Jackson v. Adams v. Crawford v. Clay in 1824: The “Corrupt Bargain”
The Election of 1860: Lincoln and the Path to Civil War
The Election of 1912: Roosevelt Spoils It
The Election of 2000: The Electoral College and the Supreme Court.
