Teen Chess Corner In-Person

Summit Free Public Library has a brand new Chess Corner for Grades 5 and up.  Organized by the Summit Library Chinese Club as part of its teen program which encourages young people to participate in community service, the new Chess Corner will provide all children and teens who are interested in chess a place where they can feel a sense of connection and unity. Additionally, our two teen instructors will strive to promote girls' participation in chess and will provide a resource to aid young women in a predominantly male field.

About the instructors:

Samuel Zhang (Peak USCF 2146) is currently a sophomore at the Union County Magnet High School and is an active chess player and coach. Samuel earned the Candidate Master Title in 2019 when he was age 14, and is nationally ranked among the top 50 for his age group.

Amelie Chan (Peak USCF 1635) is currently a sophomore at the Union County Academy for Information Technology. Amelie has 5 years of official USCF tournament experience and is ranked 23rd nationally for Top Girls Age 15.

We hope that you will join us.
