Chinese Corner: Winter Solstice Festival (Grades K-5)
Sunday, December 11 @ 3:30-4:30 PM
Our Chinese club class will introduce some fun facts about Dongzhi festival, and attendees will be able to try making dumplings in our class. Come join us and have fun!
The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Chinese winter solstice , which is Dongzhi, is the 22nd solar term of the year. The Dongzhi Festival is celebrated because the event marks the turning point of the season. It welcomes the warmer and lighter days of spring. Itis also considered a time during winter when families get to enjoy more hearty and fortifying meals that raise hope and encourage good spirits for the arrival of spring. On the day of Dongzhi, many traditions are observed, some of the main traditions include reciting the Nines of Winter, worshiping the heavens and the ancestors, eating dumplings.
Chinese Corner is a Chinese Immersion program hosted by the Summit Free Public Library and led by the volunteers of the Chinese Club, held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays during the school year. Our group of dedicated volunteers of all ages have created lots of fun and engaging topics for all ages, including games, contests, stories, talent shows, and more!
Registration for each program opens the week prior to the current week’s program.
